Why does an all-forgiving God require a bloody, barbaric human sacrifice in order to be forgiving?

I don't care if said sacrifice is his own son or Charlie Chaplin. Any being that demands someone be killed as payment for its forgiveness cannot honestly claim to be "all-forgiving".
