I'm having a magic deck crisis!?

They probably have enough red/white creatures that you don't need to resort to crappy monocolor cards like the Guard. Brion doesn't help much in a deck with smaller creatures, and I'm sure most in your deck are smaller. You would gain just do just as much damage and gain just as much health with the lightning helix as using the Stoutarm's ability on all those small creatures. Attacking with them provides more of a benefit than "throwing" them.
