Does anybody know about Army mariners? Army soldiers on Army ships.?

That's right the Army has ships that carry cargo with crew on them. I am asking because I used be in the Navy as a cook on the U.S.S. Ogden out of San Diego. Does anybody know anything about how to join the Army as a mariner on a ship. Are they stationed on the ship all the time like the Navy? Is it a full ships crew? Is it possible for me to join the army as a cook and be stationed on an Army ship as a cook too? I am just wondering because I am looking at this as an alternative to the Navy because they are severly downsizing right now so it is hard get back in the Navy and the Coast Guard is even tougher? Anything would help thanks?
